About the role

 

We are seeking a highly experienced community engagement and social performance professional to join our Copper department to drive quality, effective social performance outcomes across our global copper operations. This role is key to enabling business success by ensuring salient social reputational risks associated with our copper assets are well managed. Reporting to the Global Head of Social Performance, Human Rights & Security – Copper, this role will partner with regional, and asset leads to achieve social performance outcomes imperative for continued business success and, importantly, for the prosperity of local communities where we operate.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on social risk, community engagement, Indigenous affairs, cultural heritage, land access, and socio-economic development.
  • Implement a robust social risk management and response process to ensure risk mitigation measures and accountability are effective.
  • Partner with assets and regions in developing social performance plans that provide a holistic approach to addressing salient social and reputational risks.
  • Oversee the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of socio-economic investments, ensuring sustainable impact for local communities.
  • Lead due diligence, assurance, and continuous improvement efforts aligned with Glencore’s social performance and human rights standards.
  • Actively participate in project development processes, including EIA/SIA reviews and stage-gate decision-making.
  • Strengthen stakeholder relationships and ensure alignment with international best practices and Glencore values.

 

About you

 

You are a trusted expert on community engagement and social performance matters, and best practice methodology to successfully navigate high-impact social reputational risks in complex operating environments. You are a lateral thinker and skilled at connecting the dots to drive a holistic approach to addressing salient social reputational risks. You are action-orientated and can achieve success without direct line management of team members. Importantly, you are values driven, solutions focused and believe in shared learning for continuous improvement and excellence.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences, community development, corporate affairs, or sustainability.
  • 15+ years’ senior experience in social risk management and stakeholder engagement in resource sectors.
  • Proven track record in the design and implementation of integrated social performance frameworks.
  • A solid understanding of reputation management in emergency and crisis response for social reputational issues and incidents.
  • Deep knowledge of international standards such as UNGPs, IFC Performance Standards, ISO26001, and VPSHR.
